No Reply From a Rental Shop in Hanoi: What to Do Before You Arrive

About 4 minutes to read
Silence is not a booking. If you messaged a shop two days before landing and nothing has come back, you do not yet have a bike, a price or a time to collect it, however firm the message sounded when you sent it. The useful questions now are how long to wait, which other way to reach the shop, and what not to pay until a person has confirmed the details.
Decide how long to wait before you try something else
This guide does not claim that any shop answers within a set time. Choose your own limit based on how soon you arrive, and write it down so that you act on it instead of waiting out of habit.
| Time until you arrive | A sensible limit before trying another channel | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Three days or more | Until the next opening day has passed | Send one short follow-up, then call during opening hours |
| One to two days | A few hours of opening time | After that, call instead of sending a second message |
| You land today | Do not wait | Call, and keep a second option ready in case nobody can promise a bike |
“Opening hours” matters here. Thuê xe máy Nguyễn Hà is open 09:00–21:00 daily, so a message sent at 22:00 Hanoi time (UTC+7) falls outside those hours. If you are writing from another time zone, convert the hours to your own before deciding you are being ignored.
Try the channels in a sensible order
With three days or more, send the follow-up in step 3 first and call once the next opening day has passed; with less time, start with the call.
- Call. The shop’s number is 0334 699 969 (+84 334 699 969 from abroad). A call during opening hours is the most direct way to reach a person. If you cannot call from abroad, ask a hotel desk or a friend to call for you.
- Use the contact page. The shop’s contact page is the place to check for any other way to reach it. Use the same channel you used the first time and one other, so that one failure does not hide the other.
- Send a short, complete follow-up. State the dates, the bike type you asked for, your arrival time and one clear question: “Is a bike available for these dates?” Do not restate the whole conversation; a message that can be answered with one word is easier to answer. A Motorbike Rental Booking Message for Hanoi: Copy-and-Send Template has wording you can adapt.
- Ask for confirmation in writing. When someone replies, ask for the bike, dates and price to be written back to you so that the record exists on your side.
What not to pay until someone has confirmed
An unanswered booking is not a reason to send money to be safe. Do not transfer a deposit, a booking fee or a first instalment until a person has confirmed the bike, the dates, the price and the account the money is going to. Motorbike Rental Payment in Hanoi: Confirm the Payee Before a Bank Transfer explains how to check that the account name matches the shop. A reply from an unfamiliar number or a different name asking for payment first is a reason to call the shop’s own number and ask, not a reason to hurry. Treat anyone who approaches you on arrival saying they act for the shop the same way: confirm by the shop’s own number before handing over money, a passport or a key.
Keep a second option alive
If you land today or tomorrow and still have no confirmation, a second option stops the wait from costing you a day. That can be another shop, a taxi or ride-hailing plan for the first night, or a pickup the next morning. A second option does not settle the first request, and you could end up with two bookings. If the shop replies later, tell it in writing whether you still want the bike. If your arrival is late at night or you reach Hanoi by an overnight train, Hanoi Motorbike Rental for a Late Flight: Plan Pickup and Return and Renting a Motorbike After an Overnight Train to Hanoi help you place the pickup inside opening hours.
When you arrive without a reply
- Arrive during opening hours, and not close to 21:00, so that there is time to talk, look at the bike and decide.
- Bring a screenshot of your message and of the dates you asked for, so that the shop can see what you wrote.
- The shop is at Ngõ 5 Nguyễn Văn Cừ, Bồ Đề, Long Biên, Hà Nội, near Gia Lâm bus station. Long Bien Motorbike Pickup: Finding Alley 5 on Nguyen Van Cu describes how to find the alley.
- If nothing was confirmed, treat the visit as a new booking: ask for the bike, price and dates to be agreed and written down before you pay.
