Rental Shop Business Registration in Vietnam: Where the Rules Say to Check and What You Can See

About 6 minutes to read
Before you transfer a deposit to a shop you only know online, you may want to know whether it is registered, and where rental shop business registration details can be looked up. This article rereads six pages: one government decree, four pages of Vietnam’s business registration system and one warning on the Ha Tinh provincial portal. It records what each page says, who says it and the date of the page. None of the pages mentions motorbike rental shops, and none explains how to match a shop’s phone number, signboard or receiving bank account against registration details. The article says nothing about any particular shop and is not legal advice.
Where household businesses can be looked up, and which fields are shown
Decree 168/2025/NĐ-CP on business registration, signed by the Government on 30/6/2025 (read here in the full text posted on the Government’s Xây dựng chính sách, pháp luật portal), says in Article 116 that organisations and individuals can look up household business (hộ kinh doanh) registration details free of charge on the National Business Registration Portal at www.dangkykinhdoanh.gov.vn. The table lists the five fields open to lookup and the article that says more about each.
| Field open to lookup under Article 116 | What another article adds |
|---|---|
| Household business name | Article 86(1): the name consists of the phrase “Hộ kinh doanh” (household business) and the household’s own name |
| Household business code | Article 91(1): it is the tax code, shown on the Household Business Registration Certificate |
| Registered address | Article 87(1): the place where the household carries on its business, and the contact address it registered |
| Lines of business | This article has not read a specific provision on this field |
| Full name of the household business owner | Article 100(1): the owner is one of the details that must be re-registered when it changes |
The portal’s home page, in the extract read, shows the boxes “Tìm doanh nghiệp” (find a company), “Tìm hợp tác xã” (find a cooperative) and “Tìm trong website” (search the website), together with a household business registration link to hokinhdoanh.dkkd.gov.vn. The hokinhdoanh.dkkd.gov.vn site describes itself as a system for preparing and filing household business registrations online; its introduction does not mention looking up household businesses, and its menu has a “Tìm doanh nghiệp” link with no further explanation. This article has not tried the portal, so it cannot confirm where on the interface a household business can be found.
What the Household Business Registration Certificate is, and what it is not
Article 85(1) says the certificate is issued by the commune-level business registration authority, records the registration details and also serves as the household business’s tax registration certificate. Article 85(4) says the certificate is not a business licence.
Article 98 lists the legal statuses a household business can have in the database: “Đang hoạt động” (operating), “Tạm ngừng kinh doanh” (temporarily suspended), “Bị thu hồi do cưỡng chế về quản lý thuế” (revoked under tax enforcement), “Không hoạt động tại địa chỉ đã đăng ký” (not operating at the registered address, after the tax authority records a verification), “Đang làm thủ tục chấm dứt hoạt động” (closure in progress) and “Đã chấm dứt hoạt động” (closed). Article 116 does not include legal status among the five lookup fields, and the pages do not say whether a person searching can see it. Article 100(1) says the owner must register a change within 10 days of changing the household’s name, registered address, owner or certain other details.
If the name does not appear in the results
Article 82(3) states that households in farming, forestry, fishing or salt-making, and people selling street goods or snacks, trading on trips, running mobile or seasonal businesses or providing low-income services, do not have to register a household business, unless they work in a business line subject to investment conditions. Article 83(2) says that founders of household businesses, and household businesses themselves, may not operate under the name of a household business without registering. The pages do not say which group a motorbike rental shop belongs to, so no source explains what a “not found” result means for a particular shop.
According to an article on the business registration portal, Decree 296/2026/NĐ-CP of 23/7/2026 amends and supplements several articles of Decree 168/2025/NĐ-CP and takes effect from 23/7/2026. The summary in that article names the specialised office under the commune People’s Committee as the body handling household business procedures, and does not mention Articles 85, 98, 100 or 116; this article has not read the amending decree, so it has not cross-checked it. The portal’s own guidance page writes both “Nghị định số 168/2025/NĐ-CP” in Article 85(2) and “Nghị định số 168/2026/NĐ-CP” in Article 22(6); this article uses 168/2025, as in the full text.
A warning about deposits when booking through a fan page
On 25/04/2025 the Ha Tinh provincial portal published a warning: people set up fan pages impersonating accommodation providers and, when customers contacted them to book a room, asked for a deposit or advance payment to a personal account. The page asks residents and visitors to check fan page details carefully, to book only through official websites or contact the accommodation directly to verify, and not to transfer deposits or advance payments to unclear personal accounts. The page is about fake accommodation fan pages and does not mention motorbike rental shops; it is repeated here as a warning about sending a deposit online.
What the sources do not say
- No source deals specifically with motorbike rental, so it is not known whether this kind of business must register as a household business or meet special conditions.
- The five fields in Article 116 do not include a phone number, signboard or bank account, and no page explains how to match those details against a lookup result.
- No page says whether lookup results on the portal show any fields beyond the five in Article 116.
- No page has a warning specifically about rental deposits.
The business information this website publishes about itself is on the About us page; this article has not checked that page against the registration portal. For keeping a record of what you pay and get back, see Hanoi motorbike rental deposits: how to record payment and return, and before any transfer, confirm the payee before a bank transfer.

Questions for the shop if you want to check its registration
- What are the shop’s household business name and code, so you can look them up yourself on the portal, and does that name match the name on the booking page?
- In whose name is the account that receives the deposit, and can you confirm the account name with the shop before transferring?
