Automatic vs Manual Rental Price in Hanoi: Where the Reference Ranges Differ and How to Weigh the Gap

About 6 minutes to read

Automatic vs manual rental price in Hanoi sounds like a one-way gap, but the figures behind it are less one-sided than the question suggests. The owner-confirmed reference ranges of Thuê xe máy Nguyễn Hà put automatic and manual at the same range for a day, at overlapping ranges for a week and at a higher automatic range for a month. None of the maker pages read for this article gives a reason why a rental range should be higher for an automatic, so the article reports what the ranges and the pages show and includes a worksheet for weighing the gap on a real trip. The three maker pages were read on 26 October 2026.

What the reference ranges show

The table sets the shop’s reference ranges side by side, written as the owner confirmed them. Reference prices only. Confirm the bike and rate before booking.

PeriodManualAutomaticHow the ranges compare
Day150,000 to 200,000 VND150,000 to 200,000 VNDIdentical
Week700,000 to 800,000 VND600,000 to 1,000,000 VNDThe manual range sits inside the automatic one
Month1,000,000 to 1,200,000 VND1,200,000 to 2,000,000 VNDThe automatic range starts where the manual one ends

So the idea that an automatic costs more does not hold for every period. For a day the two ranges are the same, and for a week the automatic range reaches below the manual one. Only the month range sits higher for automatic at both ends.

How far apart one automatic and one manual rate can be

A range leaves room for different gaps, depending on which point inside each range applies. For example, taking the upper end of the automatic range minus the lower end of the manual range gives the gap at one extreme, and the reverse pairing gives the other. This is an illustration built from the table above, not a quote from the shop.

PeriodAutomatic minus manual, using the two endsResult
Day150,000 minus 200,000, and 200,000 minus 150,000From −50,000 to +50,000 VND
Week600,000 minus 800,000, and 1,000,000 minus 700,000From −200,000 to +300,000 VND
Month1,200,000 minus 1,200,000, and 2,000,000 minus 1,000,000From 0 to +1,000,000 VND

Read plainly, the automatic figure can come out lower or higher than the manual one for a day or a week, while for a month it is equal or higher by these ranges.

What the maker pages list for each body type

Maker pages cannot say what a rental shop charges, but they show how the machines differ. The table uses Yamaha Vietnam’s Janus page, whose metadata gives a last-modified date of 31 July 2026, and Honda Vietnam’s Vision and Wave Alpha 110 pages, which show no publication date. These are example models for comparison only; the pages do not show which bikes any shop holds.

Recommended retail price33,382,000 VND36,808,363 VND18,841,091 VND

Each retail figure is the one amount its page displays: Yamaha’s limited edition for Janus, and a single amount on each Honda page, although each page names several versions. They compare example versions, not whole model ranges. Yamaha’s own menu lists a from-price of 29,151,000 VND for the Janus 125 family, so the limited-edition figure above is one version’s price rather than the entry price.

Retail price and rental range are different things

For example, the Janus page’s 33,382,000 VND minus the Wave Alpha page’s 18,841,091 VND leaves 14,540,909 VND, and the same step with the Vision page’s 36,808,363 VND leaves 17,967,272 VND. Starting from Yamaha’s from-price instead, 29,151,000 minus 18,841,091 leaves 10,309,909 VND, so the gap moves with the version chosen. Those gaps describe purchase prices on maker pages. None of the pages links purchase price to rental rates, and the shop’s day ranges above are identical for both types, so the purchase gap alone does not explain the table. What drives the month figures is not stated in anything read here.

Fuel: what the maker figures show

The pages give consumption in litres per 100 km: 1.98 for Janus, 1.82 for Vision and 1.72 for Wave Alpha 110. They do not describe how the figures were measured. As an illustration over 500 km, the Janus figure gives 1.98 × 5 = 9.9 L and the Wave Alpha figure 1.72 × 5 = 8.6 L, a difference of 1.3 L; the Vision figure gives 1.82 × 5 = 9.1 L, 0.5 L more than Wave Alpha. Pump prices are outside these pages. For fuel cost per 100 km with a dated price notice, see Scooter Fuel Cost per 100 km in Vietnam: Declared Litres and 22 October 2026 Price Ceilings.

A worksheet for weighing the gap

This is general guidance, not a statement from the pages.

  1. Count the rental days and pick the period that fits. The day ranges are equal, so the manual and automatic ranges differ only when the stay moves into week or month ranges. For awkward stay lengths, see A Six-Day Hanoi Stay: Should You Take a Weekly Rental or Pay Day by Day?
  2. Write down both ends of the manual and automatic range for that period, then ask the shop which bike and rate each end belongs to. Price Ranges on a Rental Listing: Pin Down Which Bike and Rate You Are Getting covers that question.
  3. Add the fuel difference in litres for the distance planned, using the 100 km figures above as a starting point, and price it with a dated pump price.
  4. List the differences that carry no price tag: gear changes on the four-speed bike and the storage compartment on the scooter. Automatic vs Semi-Automatic in Stop-Start Hanoi Traffic: A Control Comparison sets the controls side by side.
  5. Compare the totals for your period. Where the ranges coincide, the choice rests on controls, storage and fuel; where the automatic range is higher, decide whether the extra amount buys something the trip will use.

What the pages leave out

  • Why any rental range is higher or lower for an automatic: neither the maker pages nor the ranges give a reason.
  • Which bike models the manual and automatic ranges cover, and which end of a range applies to a given bike.
  • A gearbox line on Honda’s Vision page, which calls the model a scooter but lists none; a publication date on either Honda page.
  • How Yamaha and Honda measured the fuel figures, and storage litres for Vision and Wave Alpha 110.
  • Retail prices for the other Honda versions named on each page, which version Yamaha’s from-price belongs to, and any pump price.
  • Booking terms beyond the ranges, which are a question for the shop.
