Honda Future 125 FI: What Honda Pages Say About the Four-Speed Gearbox and Fuel Figure

About 6 minutes to read

Anyone weighing a Honda Future 125 rental can start with what Honda’s own documents print about the bike. This article reads Honda Vietnam’s Future 125 FI product page, the Future 125 FI owner’s manual, a Honda launch release dated 28 October 2025 and a VnExpress report, and it uses four further Honda documents for comparison. None of them covers renting the bike, and none of the Future pages uses the word “semi-automatic”, so the article reports what each page does say and marks where a page is silent.

What Honda’s product page prints

Honda’s Future 125 FI page lists the figures below. It also says the bike has three versions in total but prints one set of values, so the page does not show whether any figure differs between versions.

Gearbox“4 số tròn” (four-speed)

The gearbox and how the manual says to shift

The Future 125 FI manual says the gearbox has four forward gears and that shifting differs when stopped and when moving. Stopped, the bike can go from 4th straight to neutral (N) using what the text calls the “4 số vòng” system; moving, it uses a four-gear return system and cannot go from 4th to N directly. The manual’s other statements on shifting:

  • Reduce the throttle before each shift, and press lightly with the toe on the shift lever until it is pushed down.
  • Avoid unnecessary shifting and resting the foot on the lever while riding, because that can damage the shift mechanism and the clutch mechanism (cơ cấu ly hợp).
  • Move to N, with the N indicator lit, before starting the engine; the gear indicator shows positions 1 to 4.
  • Engine braking slows the bike when the throttle is released, and a lower gear slows it more; the manual’s running-in advice for the first 500 km (300 miles) is also to avoid hard braking and fast downshifts, and its riding warnings say hard braking can reduce the bike’s stability.

The manual’s specification pages print gear ratios of 2.500, 1.550, 1.150 and 0.923 for 1st to 4th. The extracted text has no table of speeds for changing down. Honda’s Wave Alpha manual (code AFB110MD), a different four-speed bike, does print one: 4th to 3rd at 80 km/h or lower, 3rd to 2nd at 55 km/h or lower and 2nd to 1st at 30 km/h or lower. No Future page says those speeds apply to the Future.

Where the clutch appears in Honda’s documents

Three Honda manuals describe their controls differently. The table sets out what each extracted text says.

Honda manualShifting textClutch wording
Future 125 FIFour forward gears; shift leverA clutch mechanism in the shift warning and a clutch system (Hệ thống côn) in the schedule; the words for a clutch lever (tay côn, cần côn) do not occur
Winner X (codes FS150F, FS150FA)Six-speed; pedal pressed down for 1st, flicked up for the other gearsA clutch lever (Tay côn) is listed; free play 10-20 mm
VisionNo shifting section in the extracted text“V-Matic” reduction in the specification; the schedule lists the drive belt and clutch shoe wear

Honda’s launch release calls the Future a mẫu xe số cao cấp (premium geared model), and Honda’s FAQ lists “xe ga, xe số, xe côn tay” as separate groups of bikes in one answer about ordering. The only “semi-automatic” wording in the pages read is a 2021 FAQ entry on the Super Cub C125, which describes a four-speed with a centrifugal clutch and bán tự động (semi-automatic) drive that helps the rider control the bike easily. That entry is about a different model, so these pages do not explain how the Future’s clutch works. For the automatic-scooter side of the comparison, the site has a page titled Scooter Rental Hanoi: Tips to Choose the Right Bike for Your Perfect Adventure.

Fuel figure: 1.47 L/100 km and a 4.6 L tank

Honda’s product page and launch release both give 1.47 L/100 km, and the page calls it a major reason customers choose the model. VnExpress writes that the figure is “according to the manufacturer’s announcement”. None of the three says how the figure was measured, such as speed, load or road. As the writer’s own arithmetic, a 4.6 L tank divided by 1.47 L per 100 km comes to about 313 km, which would hold only if the bike matched the printed figure; it is not a range Honda states. The manual recommends fuel of RON 92 or higher and says the fuel-gauge needle at the red mark means about 1.33 L is left.

Storage, load and the tyre label

Honda’s page says the storage compartment fits one full-face helmet plus personal items, and the launch release says the same of the under-seat compartment; neither prints a volume in litres. The manual limits luggage in the storage box to 10 kg and gives a maximum load of 160 kg including rider, passenger, luggage and accessories, for a rider plus one passenger. The page also lists a 4-in-1 lock (ignition, magnetic, steering and seat) and says the headlight stays lit while the bike runs. The manual’s tyre label gives cold pressures of 200 kPa front and 225 kPa rear for the rider alone, and 200 kPa front and 280 kPa rear with a passenger. For reading such a label on any bike, see Motorbike Tyre Pressure for Rental Riders: Read the Manufacturer Label.

Versions, dates and a unit mismatch

Honda’s release is dated 28 October 2025 and says sales at Honda-authorised stores start on 9 November 2025, with a warranty of 3 years or 30,000 km, whichever comes first. VnExpress, whose page carries a 28 October 2025 date stamp, gives the same 28 October launch and 9 November sales dates, written without a year. It also gives power as 9.5 mã lực (horsepower) at 7,500 rpm where Honda’s page gives 6.83 kW, so the two figures use different units and no page reconciles them. The manual covers model codes AFS125MSF and AFS125CSF without saying what separates them; for matching a manual to a particular bike, a site page is titled Find the Exact Manual for Your Rental Scooter: Model Code, Year and Market.

What the pages leave out

No page mentions rental, hire or renters, so a rental bike’s condition, service and terms are not covered. No Future page calls the bike semi-automatic or clutchless, or says what kind of clutch it has; the manual names a clutch mechanism and a clutch system and leaves the details out. The manual’s shifting diagram and its schedule columns for the clutch system did not come through in the extracted text, so no pedal pattern and no clutch inspection interval can be given. In the text read, Honda prints no downshift speeds for the Future, no test conditions for the fuel figure and no storage volume. Purchase prices appear in the launch release and are not used here.
